University of Washington:

The University of Washington is a public flagship research university based in Seattle, Washington. It was ranked #4 among US public institutions on the Times Higher Education public university rankings for 2017. The university is a member of the Association of American Universities and is consistently ranked among the top 15 universities in the world by a variety of international publications.

The University of Washington athletics team are known as the Huskies. They are ranked in the NCAA Division 1 and compete in the Pac 12 Conference.

About UW IELP:

The University of Washington features one of the largest, most established international and English language programs in the United States. It offers a wide variety of programs for both undergraduate and graduate students to help students improve their English language skills, prepare for further study in the United States and learn about American culture, business and other subjects.

Students may choose to enroll in a program that lasts for just a few weeks or take one that extends for several quarters or a whole academic year.

IELP offers a wide variety of programs, including:

  • Intensive academic English sessions
  • College preparation programs for undergraduate and graduate students
  • Business English certificate programs and internships
  • Short-term programs focused on language and cultural enrichment
  • Evening courses in conversational skills and English proficiency test preparation

Programs:

If you are an international student planning on studying at an American college or university, the IELP academic preparation programs at the UW are a great way to get ready. Whether your main goal is to improve your English, brush up on your study skills, learn more about a particular topic or simply get accustomed to academic life in the United States, these programs are an excellent place to start.

Five academic preparation programs are offered, which vary in terms of length, student population, purpose, English proficiency level and other factors. Several brochures are available for viewing below:

Housing:

There are a number of options for housing. Students can live on campus in a residence hall or an apartment, if available, or they can live off campus in an apartment or room. Many students also choose to participate in a homestay program.

Please note that the UW IELP office does not make housing arrangements; instead it is recommend that students arrange for housing well before their arrival.

Entry Requirements:

Admission requirements vary by program. Many of the programs do not require test scores for admission. Many of the programs accept applications year-round and do not have application deadlines, while others do.
