Located in the town of Orono along the Stillwater River, the University of Maine offers a strong traditional education at an affordable price. Athletics are a major part of student life at the University of Maine. With 17 Division I sports, there are many talented athletes who excel on campus and go on to professional careers. Right from the start, freshman get to work on building the skills they need after life at UMaine. Faculty members welcome students to work alongside them on research projects, helping students gain workplace experience through close mentor-mentee relationships.

Athletics:
The University of Maine athletics team are known as the “Black Bears”. They participate in the America East Conference and are members of the NCAA Division 1.
Mens’ teams: Baseball, basketball, cross-country/track, football, ice hockey, and swimming/diving.
Women’s teams: Basketball, cross-country/track, field hockey, ice hockey, soccer, softball, and swimming/diving.

UMaine has a range of different on-campus housing options – traditional residence hall, suite style, graduate housing and family housing. We do not offer homestays. First-year students are required to live on campus. There is a number of off-campus housing options but UMaine does not facilitate this process.

Entry requirements:
TOEFL requirements: 79 (iBT), IELTS: 6.5 – this English proficiency requirement may be waived under certain circumstances (UStudy can help you determine whether this waiver applies to you).
