High Schools and Prep Schools in the USA:
High School Program
Duration possibilities: from 4 months up to 4 years
In the US, high school runs from grade 9 through grade 12 – high school students are usually between 14 and 19 years of age. Placement of UStudy students is dependent on the student’s age and educational background. The American high school academic year lasts nine months, starting at the end of August and ending in May. Living with a host family in the area is a one-of-a-kind experience.
Uniquely, many high schools in the United States offer students the option of enjoying either vocational or college preparatory classes. In vocational high school programs, students study a skill or trade, such as cosmetology, dental assisting or graphic communications, in addition to completing academic core requirements. As students graduate from school with specific trade skills, this high school option has gained great popularity over the past couple of years.

Prep School Program
Possible duration: from 4 months up to 5 years
College preparatory schools (prep schools) are private high schools in the US. These institutions can either be day or boarding schools, and can be co-educational or single-sex. These private institutions are known for their challenging curriculum - graduates often continue studying at top-tier colleges and universities in the US or elsewhere.
The number of students per class is often far lower at prep schools than public high schools, meaning that the student will receive more personalized attention; the higher in-class participation can positively affect the student's learning experience, as well.
As prep schools usually have a more selective admissions process, the student will be surrounded by peers who are (equally) as driven by academic achievement. Those who are not challenged enough in their current learning environment will find that a school full of highly-motivated students can cause a major improvement in their attitude towards learning. The student will live in a dorm on campus.

UStudy helped me to set up an American-style resume, and their application specialists assisted me in composing proper application letters. I also took part in their ACT prep workshops, which led to my ACT test score going up. Without UStudy, I probably would not have succeeded; you have to take care of so many things!

it came down to two places: Seattle or back to California – such a hard decision. I made a list of pros and cons.
