About:

Wilbraham & Monson Academy is situated on 300+ acres in picturesque New England. Founded in 1804, it is one of the fifteen oldest schools on the eastern coast. It is a four-year boarding and day high school for students in grades 6-12 and postgraduate. WMA prepares students for the challenges of higher education and success as global citizens by promoting intellectual development, physical health, personal accountability, mutual respect, and commitment to service.

Its student body consists of 455 students, grades 6-postgraduate, which include 138 International students from 30 different countries. The academy’s mission is to develop global citizens and leaders. The popular Center for Entrepreneurial and Global Studies (CEGS) offers courses in History, Economics, International Relations and Entrepreneurial studies including the Business of Fashion. The CEGS program also houses the Mark R. Shenkman Trading Center, the only high school trading floor in the United States. In addition, the academy offers 19 AP courses and a strong Fine and Performing Arts Department.

  • WMA has 30+ clubs including Model UN, Human Rights & Equality, Tai Chi and Tinkering
  • Offers three online classes: Poetry, Video Game Design, AP European History

Athletics:

Sports plays an important role in the life of a Wilbraham & Monson Academy student.

Sports include baseball, basketball, cross country/track, dance, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, riflery, rowing, rugby, soccer, snowboarding, softball, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo, and wrestling.

Students must take several compulsory courses across a broad range of subjects: English, Maths, Science, History/CEGS, World Languages, Fine & Performing Arts.

Entry requirements:

  1. Schedule an interview
  2. Submit an application via the website and pay $150 non-refundable application fee, OR submit one of the SSAT, TABS and Gateway to Prep common applications
  3. Standardized testing – submit the SSAT or TOEFL score. Please note that while we embrace a global community and the diversity the many different cultures bring to our school, we offer only advanced ESL classes. We expect all international students to have a high level of English proficiency when they arrive to campus.
  4. Transcript of results for the previous 2 years in high school (UStudy can help clients transcribe these into an Americanized format)
  5. Three letters of recommendation from your current school – we require recommendations from a current English teacher and Math teacher as well as a third recommendation from a counselor, principal or a personal reference

Tuition: (2016-2017)

Upper & Middle School Boarding $56,000

Additional fees:

Tuition Refund Program – $600 (boarding student)

Health Services Fee – $125 (boarding student)

Technology Fee – $500 (boarding student)

Books Range from $700 to $1,000

International Fee $2,500

English as a Second Language (if applicable) $5,000

Health Insurance – full coverage is mandatory. The plan cost is $1,740 for those not otherwise covered

Financial Aid / Scholarships:

Each year over 35% of our student body receives discounted tuition. The majority of our disbursed funds are need-based, with the exception of a limited number of Head of School Awards.
